My clinic has the QPD Panel and also the
Shedler QS-20. Which test should I use?
|
 |
The tests are designed for different purposes.
The QPD Panel assesses a broad spectrum of psychiatric
disorders and probes in enough detail to allow the
physician to make specific psychiatric diagnoses and
differential diagnoses. The report contains enough
information to help the physician formulate a treatment
plan. The test takes 6.2 minutes to complete, on
average.
The QS-20 is a brief case finding
instrument, not a diagnostic instrument. A patient can
complete the test in under two minutes (QS stands for
“Quick Screen”). The QS-20 provides depression and
anxiety scores, along with relevant community norms.
High scores indicate that further assessment is
indicated. The QS-20 can be used as an initial screener
when time is limited. |

Why does the patient trending report show only
the depression and anxiety scores? |
 |
| Virtually all psychiatric disorders are
accompanied by anxiety or depression (whether or not the
patient meets formal DSM-IV criteria for a mood or
anxiety disorder). An emerging psychiatric disorder is
generally heralded by an increasing anxiety or
depression score. Similarly, improvement in a
psychiatric condition will be signaled by a decreasing
anxiety or depression score. These scales are the most
sensitive QPD Panel scales, and are the most reliable
indicators of patient change. |
